Artificial Christmas Trees: Why to get them over Real Christmas Trees

Sofia Carranza, Writer

It is officially the Holiday season again, meaning it’s time to bust out the decor and find a Christmas tree for this holiday season. Well, let me tell you why buying an artificial tree is the best decision. First things first, they are more sustainable for the environment, cutting down thousands of trees intentionally is called deforestation, and is one of the leading causes for climate change. According to “ What are the 5 main causes of climate change after the UN report?” Deforestation is the second leading cause of climate change because “not enough carbon dioxide is being soaked up from the earth’s atmosphere. (Tolley)  It’s also cheaper in the long run, the average price for a real Christmas tree ranges from $90-$100 while the artificial Christmas trees are $100-$130. Sure at first, it’s $30-$40 cheaper, but they last for 10 plus years. This means you pay around $10-$13 a year for a Christmas tree that doesn’t harm the environment and can be reused. So, would you rather save hundreds of dollars on a tree that is benefiting the environment or buy a tree that speeds up the global climate change problem?
